Greene County is excited to announce that the Board of Commissioners has been informed and received a $250,000 grant from Trillium Health Resources to support the construction of a new inclusive playground at the Greene County Recreation Complex.

This award is part of Trillium’s Inclusive Playground Grant Program, also known as the Play Together Accessible Playground Grants. The program has helped build more than 30 inclusive playgrounds across North Carolina, giving children and individuals of all abilities the chance to play together in safe, welcoming outdoor spaces.

Greene County actively seeks grant opportunities to improve community facilities and provide long-term value for residents. This grant reflects the County’s commitment to that goal, and we are fortunate to have been selected for funding that will enhance one of our most-used public spaces.

The new playground may include features such as:

  • A rubberized surface to improve access for wheelchairs and other assistive devices

  • Sensory-friendly equipment for children with sensory processing needs

  • Full-support swings for added comfort and safety

  • A Liberty Swing designed for use with wheelchairs

  • Doublewide ramps for easier movement throughout the playground

“This is an investment in our families, our future, and our values,” said the Greene County Board of Commissioners. “We thank Trillium Health Resources for helping us take another step toward building a more inclusive community.”

Design and construction planning will begin in the coming months, with updates available on the Greene County website and social media channels.
