Medicaid is a program that helps provide payments for the cost of medical services including doctor and dentist visits, prescription drugs, hospital charges, cost of care for nursing homes, transportation and community based services. All Medicaid programs are based on income.
Allows income eligible individuals to receive health care services for eligible children under the age of 21, eligible caretakers of children under age 19 and pregnant women.
Medicaid is the major funding source for nursing home care, adult home care, medical care and prescription drugs for our elderly, disabled and blind citizens. It also helps provide home and community based services to individuals who would otherwise require nursing facility care, allowing them to continue living in the community.
The program links Medicaid recipients with a primary care physician who coordinates the recipient’s health care. By linking recipients with a primary care physician, Medicaid funds are saved since one physician is overseeing a person’s medical condition and referring for specialized services.
