Beginning October 7, 2024, and continuing until March 31, 2025, Greene County will temporarily switch to purchasing water from GUC (Greenville Utilities Commission). During this period, the disinfectant used in the water treatment process will be chloramines rather than free chlorine.
As part of this annual change, some customers may notice a slight difference in the taste or smell of their tap water. A mild chlorine taste or odor is normal and poses no health risks. The water remains safe to drink and continues to meet all state and federal health standards.
Most customers will not need to take any special measures. However, individuals and businesses that typically remove chloramines from their water—such as dialysis centers, medical facilities, and aquarium owners—should take appropriate precautions during this temporary switch.
