As we bid farewell to another impactful year, let’s take a moment to reflect on the key accomplishments and strides made by your county government in 2023. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the achievements across various departments:

Tax Department:

  • Increased tax collection rate
  • Streamlined existing processes and implemented new procedures for enhanced efficiency

Finance Department:

  • Successfully completed the ’23 audit within the Local Government Commission grace period
  • Filled vacant positions, achieving a fully staffed team
  • Completed MUNIS update to Cloud-based version
  • Implemented process changes to enhance revenue reporting and improve segregation of duties
  • Conducted process documentation for increased staff development and training opportunities
  • Various policy revisions

Economic Development:

  • Secured a $165,000 NC state grant and Golden LEAF grant for a future Industrial Site study
  • Received a $50,000 NC Commerce grant for the expansion of primary health care at Heritage Family Wellness
  • Welcomed Corporate Ladder Brewing as it announced its first North Carolina location in Greene County

Building Inspections:

  • Issued over 1,000 permits
  • Conducted over 1,700 inspections
  • Attained two Level 2 inspection certifications and a Certified Floodplain Manager certification

Recreation Department:

Emergency Management (EM):

Register of Deeds:

Cooperative Extension:

Department of Social Services (DSS):

Senior Center:
