Greene County Transportation was established by the Board of County Commissioners on July 1, 1999 to provide transportation for the human service agencies of Greene County and to the general public. The creation of this department was made possible through an agreement between the County of Greene and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Public Transportation Division.
Through this agreement, Federal and State funds are provided annually to the County to offset local administrative and capital operating costs. The County Transportation Department provides a “dial-a-ride” type service to all residents of Greene County when there is space and funding available.
Passengers should be prepared to leave 15 to 30 minutes prior to their scheduled pickup time
Actual pickup times will be adjusted according to system needs. The goal of the system is to honor passengers’ schedule needs in a cost-efficient manner.
Passengers must call for reservations a minimum of 48 hours prior to requested pickup time (two workdays before). All passengers are encouraged to schedule their appointments to ride as soon as they receive the medical appointment or have a need for transportation. The transportation system will not call doctors, employers, etc., to confirm passengers’ medical appointments or work schedules.
The Greene County Transportation System offers service to medical appointments in Greenville, Farmville, Goldsboro and Kinston Tuesday through Thursday. Out of County medical appointments should be scheduled in the morning hours.
Public transportation is available throughout Greene County as funding is available for medical appointments, LCC Snow Hill, employment, shopping, and Health & Human Service trips.
Drivers will wait a maximum of five minutes at pickup points. Passengers should call the afternoon prior to their scheduled day of service for an approximate time to be ready for pick up. In order to provide the best service for the most passengers, a delay in the pick up time due to passenger’s not being ready, delays the entire schedule. This can be detrimental for some employment and medical appointment passengers.
The Transportation Department’s office hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday. Closed on all Greene County Holidays.
