Animal Shelter Attendant (Full Time)
Salary Grade: 59 Hiring Salary: $27,408 Starting salary may be lower if not fully qualified
Permanent Full Time: 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday
DESCRIPTION
An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks at the County Animal Shelter to care for and prepare animals for adoption. Work involves ensuring the animal shelter is maintained in a clean and safe condition, feeding, handling, and providing custodial care to animals in the shelter and assisting the general public in claiming and adopting animals. Employee is also responsible for preparing and maintaining various records pertaining to animal identification, animal populations, etc. as well as public contact answering telephones and responding to routine inquiries or requests for services. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of animal control work including animal bites, contact with animal blood and diseases. Work is performed under regular supervision and evaluated by observation of work, conferences and annual evaluations.
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school, and experience involving contact with the public and in handling and caring for animals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special Requirement
Ability to obtain rabies certifications within time period specified by the County.
Possession of a valid NC driver’s license.
