Accounting Technician I, II, or III

Experience and Education will determine whether hired at Accounting I, II, or III position/salary.
Permanent Full Time: 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday
The purpose of this position is to complete accounting functions on a professional level, prepare a variety of reports and records as well as account functions, purchase order task, accounts payable tasks and performing other necessary tasks.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee in this class is responsible for a variety of paraprofessional accounting and fiscal duties with a primary responsibility of processing accounts payable, purchase orders, payroll and other miscellaneous financial responsibilities for the County. The employee reviews information submitted by departments to generate checks in payment for goods and services, reviews timesheets for accuracy and completion and assist finance staff with other financial responsibilities as needed.
Receives and reviews invoices submitted by departments for payment; audits invoice and verifies appropriate general ledger account codes, vendor numbers and amounts; matches purchase orders to invoices; reviews supporting documentation; and figures sales tax on invoices; maintains files of invoices.
Prepares daily deposits for revenues collected; scan checks into bank system; posts journal entries to record deposits with corresponding documentation.
Receives, opens and processes mail for the tax and water office; validates and receipt totals of all checks received; attaches all mail contents to envelopes and delivers to the tax and water office for entry into the financial system.
Accounting Technician II
Assists with reconciliation of various general ledger accounts and bank statements as needed.
Enters vendors into the computer system for accounts payable; obtains necessary information from vendors, maintains W-9 on file; updates and maintains vendor files.
Accounting Technician III
Prepares annual reports and 1099’s; mails statements to contract vendors; assists with audit by gathering check requests and other records.
Maintains a variety of accounts payable files and records and other financial data; retrieves information for auditors or as needed to answer questions.
Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a two-year college with a degree in accounting or business and experience in paraprofessional accounting work, preferably in a municipal or county finance office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
